Designing a Bike Frame
I was playing with the idea that a hole in the front and back of the top tube would allow the air to pass right through, hopefully creating less drag. But why not extended that idea to the whole frame? The various parts of the bike are designed to present a minimal surface to the front, and to allow as much air as possible to go through the bike....

TATO bicycles
Jean-Louis Francescotti is a designer who commutes to work almost daily by bike. He was looking for a better way to transport his laptop and files, so he designed a new frame with an integrated storage compartment in the main triangle to do just that. Here is what Jean-Louis had to say about his design:“Tato bicycles are based on the CSSB system (Central Storage System for Bicycles): a new bicycle concept. The volume for transport is centrally located, easy to access, and protects well-transported objects. The position of the objects lowers the center of gravi...

The "Dutchess"... for ladies
BikeBiz points us to the Dutchess, a new concept bike designed by Wytze van Mansum, a design student at the Delft University of Technology. According to a company statement, the bike was "designed for women keen to express their style amongst the fast paced and ever changing urban vibe."The Dutchess is only a rideable prototype at this point. As has been the case with previous concept bikes though, elements of the design may make their way into future Cannondale urban bicycles.See more pictures of the bike.Watch the video, made by Eelke Dekker, which s...

The Copenaghen whell
“Transform your ordinary bicycle into a hybrid e-bike that also provides feedback on pollution, traffic congestion and road conditions in real time!”That is the opening statement on the website for the Copenhagen Wheel, a project by MIT’s SENSEable City Laboratory. With a claim like that, it is no wonder the project has been getting so much attention on the web since its debut at the COP15 climate Summit in Copenhagen a couple of days ago. Like the Sanyo Eneloop bike that I mentioned last year, this design stores kinetic energy from braking for future use by w...

MILANO!
